Numeracy

How you can help your child with maths at home

I have just completed my maths assessment on all children in room 8 and have found some small things you can do at home to help improve their numeracy knowledge.

  • counting from 0-1000, forwards and backwards and from different starting points (can start to 100).
  • Identify numbers beyond 100 to 1000
  • skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to 100 (start out to 20 then 50)
  • know doubles to 20 (eg. 2+2, 6+6, 10+10 etc. Can start to 10 then increase to 20)
  • know halves to 20 (eg. half of 2, half of 6, half of 14 etc. Can start to 10 then increase to 20)
  • know basic facts to 5 and then 10 (eg. 1+4=5, 2+3=5 etc)
Your help with getting your child fluent with these parts of knowledge will help them move quickly through the numeracy strategies. If you need help or want more information please ask. Make maths fun and interesting and try to include it in everyday life.
